From the greatest living writer of ghost stories, here is a perfect chiller: a story of two damaged children filled with unease, the supernatural and horror.
The remoter parts of the English Fens are forlorn, lost and damp even in the height of summer. At Iyot Lock, a large decaying house, two young cousins, Leonora and Edward, are parked for the summer with their ageing spinster aunt and her cruel housekeeper. At first the unpleasantness and petty meannesses appear simply spiteful, calculated to destroy Edward's equanimity. But when spoilt Leonora is not given the birthday present of a specific dolly that she wants, affairs inexorably take a much darker turn with terrifying, life-destroying consequences for everyone.

Currently reading it.
Ms Hill never disappoints, this is a thrilling horror novella, written in beautiful style, and open to different interpretations... but anyway chilling! There is something mysterious and somewhat frightening in old dolls, I've always thought.
Thanks for sharing, it will soon be on its way to a sweepstakes winner.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Left in the hallway, alongside some Halloween decorations.
I personally didn’t care for the author’s style of writing, and didn’t think she wrote convincing children at all. The concepts are fine, if not particularly unique. I probably wouldn’t have finished it if I hadn’t been bringing it to work to read on my lunch break. Maybe it will be a better fit for the next reader!
