Bravo bravissimo! Another fantastic book by Mr Gaiman. Alternatively sick and sexy, but always surreal. I just loved the last two stories - a heavenly whodunnit and Snow White as you have never thought of her before! More more more!

Wow! I found all of these stories brilliant each in their own way. The diversity of the stories really shows what a great writer Gaiman is, I don't think I really had a favourite story, I found quite a few of them equally amazing. I really enjoyed reading this and was a bit gutted when I finished.

It took me a lot of time to read this book; it seems I can read Gaiman only in winter...
Gaiman is great in working with well know characters (Snow White, Santa Claus, Galaad, Lucifer) and describing them from a completely new point of view.
I liked more "Chivalry", "Murder Mysteries", "Nicholas Was ..." and "Snow, Glass, Apples".
I think I'll have a book-ray for it.

I really love Mr. Gaiman for all stories he gives us with this book...

So lovely - and so bitter - the intro one, a sort-of "Dorian Grey": this is my favourite.
I loved "Chivalry" too, and "Shoggoth's Old Peculiar" (dear, old Lovecraft!), amused with "We Can Get Them For You Wholesale" and "When We Went to See the End of the World".

Thanks to Banshee!

My first thought was: "wow!", but maybe I should express myself in a few more words. ^_-
It's difficult to give a single opinion for all those stories.
Some of them would not be my cup of tea, but others... others would strike me.
Their atmosphere would linger in my mind, not letting me go. That is the magic of Gaiman's work: it creates an atmosphere, even in a few sentences, that remains, even when you cannot remember the exact story plot anymore.
Certain images are stuck in my mind - Santa Claus' punishment, the Jack in the box waiting, some of the 15 Painted Cards From a Vampire Tarot, the Seeper of Dreams, the atmosphere in Cold Colours, the Vampire Sestina, and the introduction, when he talks about smoke & mirrors.

It's a great book, so thank you for the Ray.

I fell in love with Gaiman's storytelling when I first read his Sandman comics by DC. Almost every single page he writes seems to turn by magic into visual poetry. "Smoke an mirrors" is an amazing collection of dreams, or nightmares if you like, written in a very elegant, powerful, evocative, magical way.Even though I dare confess I found a couple of stories quite boring - as if the Author was not fully into them -, pages like "In the End" alone make the book absolutely worth reading. The majority of stories in this collection is beautiful, like those echoing my beloved Lovecraft's world or "The Price", the most enchanting praise of the black cat I have ever read, or "Babycakes".
I have already bought my copy of this book as I consider it as a "must have", not only for all Gaiman appreciators but for all lovers of true art.
Thanks for sharing. The book is now leaving to Nereia. Enjoy!

My english in not very good and this make me an unsure reader. I love Gaiman and this is my first Gaiman's book that I read in original language. His writing style is amazing and gives you a clear image of situations, characters, descriptions, places and emotions. It's a really great book.
The book is now leaving to etnagigante, thanks for the ray.

Reading Gaiman is always astounding. I had read his novels and was ready to dive in his short stories, full of magic in real life, British mystery, night shadows or simply Hollywood stuff. The first thing you'll aprecieate is the intoduction, for it's a very short story itself and not a simple list of the story the book is formed of. Reading this stories allows you to be careful of bridges, old tea cup o cats because of what they could mean.
A real pleasure for mind.
