Brooklyn Wainwright is always fun and this time we have her family and her fabulous English security fiance's family as well. Then we have death in the bookshop across the street. Very good.

There are a lot of themed cozies out there, some good, some not so good, but Carlisle is one of the better ones. Her theme; is book conservation, and bindery, with a bit of paper making thrown in for fun. Food and wine figure into her books as well.
This time Brooklyn stumbles upon a dead body, very close to home, in the little courtyard that houses an organic produce mart, a bookstore with new and older books (obviously Brooklyn's favourite store) a hat store and a pie shop. As much as these books are light hearted and fun, Carlisle manages to wedge in a serious San Francisco issue, the ongoing gentrification and evictions that are ripping the soul out of this wonderful city. Carlisle keeps you guessing about the who exactly the bad guy is and while not surprised by the ending, it was a little more convoluted than I expected.
As always with her books my least favourite thing is Derek Stone, Brooklyn's all way too perfect fiance. This guy is a Mary Sue, to beat all Mary Sues. He's too strong, too handsome, too nice, too around just at the right time; he's just TOO. The dude needs some flaws; he's boring and ridiculous.
