Crossed over at the GoGo Cafe, Darlinghurst this morning. On loan from jackiea. Never read any Bill Bryson, so really excited about this one. Thanks for sharing some of your permanent collection with me jackiea...
What a delightful read. Warm, witty, honest (to the point of embarassment sometimes!) and very informative. Really takes you on the journey with him and his unlikely and entertaining travel companion. It also has much to say about the United States - it's people and culture as well as its wilderness areas.
Perhaps my only disappointment was that the book was pretty much all descriptive and informative - whereas I look for a deal of personal reflection and 'inner travel' in my 'journey' books - but this is more to do with me and is in no way critical of Bryson's fine work. I couln't imagine anyone not enjoying this.
Thanks jackiea and I will return this to your permanent collection
