I've heard about the Marie Kondo's book a few years old, when I came across a mention of her unusual way to fold clothes. I totally love her method and my drawers look so much tidier and organized, and even my husband adopted it. So I really look forward to reading the original book.

First, KonMari as a child is weird! Which 10 year old will read Good Housekeeping and spend her time tidying rooms of her family members? In American she'd be taken to the psychiatrist!!

However, it does seem like KonMari really spend time trying out different organization to find out the best, saving us all the trouble of reinventing the wheel. I can see how her method works... it's not the reader trying to implement a system imposed by another person, but rather internalizing the process and making a commitment to cherish what s/he keeps.

I do disagree with her regarding "books that we don't read in a year will never get read". I have loads of BC journals to prove her wrong. Maybe that's why my house is still a mess.

While some readers may find rather outlandish her idea of inanimate objects have feelings, or saying thanks to your handbag, this is really in line with the Japanese Shinto belief that there are spirits in rocks, trees, rivers and other objects.

I nearly bought the German version, have watched some youtube videos about her method.
I already know that I won't be able to do the “pure“ method, especially with paper, but my mess might improve a bit with the help of this book.
Thank you, Azuki!
