Helena Souckova, an eight-year-old schoolgirl in a small provincial town, deals not only with the uniquely dismal side of life in communist Czechoslovakia, but also with more than a few universal issues.
This is an English translation of Hrdy Budzes, a popular Czech book. I was given it as a gift at a conference in Brno.
It was an interesting way to look at the Czech Republic under Communism, with some flashes of humour throughout.

Life in a small town in Czechoslovakia as seen from the viewpoint of a young primary school age girl. It is fun to try and work out what she is talking about sometime from her limited understanding of the life around her. It is also a little sad in places. An interesting tale, but I had to work at it a bit in places to keep going.
