Book 2 of The Awakeners. Pamra Don, haunted by her dead, leads a crusade - she has seen the truth of the false gods of the Thraish and she seeks the Protector of Man. Meanwhile the committee surrounding the Protector plots, most of them for their own power and for the elixir that extends life. The Noor, persecuted by their fellow men, are on a quest, with Medoor Babji the chosen heir travelling the river in search of the fabled Southshore. It's a great premise for a fantasy and the world is well developed though this isn't amongst Tepper's best works.
