The Da Vinci Code
11 journalers for this copy...
If I could rate this book a 20, I would. The Da Vinci Code is an incredible, fast paced novel that I literally could not put down. It stayed glued to my hands all day, and I even stayed up through the night to learn the mystery. There was no way I was going to bed with it unsolved. Perfection in storytelling!
UPDATE: For you movie lovers, The Da Vinci Code is slated to be released sometime in 2006, starring Tom Hanks and directed by the great Ron Howard
Book Description:
While in Paris on business, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon receives an urgent late-night phone call: the elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum. Near the body, police have found a baffling cipher. While working to solve the enigmatic riddle, Langdon is stunned to discover it leads to a trail of clues hidden in the works of Da Vinci -- clues visible for all to see -- yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.
Langdon joins forces with a gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, and learns the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion -- an actual secret society whose members included Sir Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci, among others.
In a breathless race through Paris, London, and beyond, Langdon and Neveu match wits with a faceless powerbroker who seems to anticipate their every move. Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle in time, the Priory's ancient secret -- and an explosive historical truth -- will be lost forever.

Just rcvd the book... look foreward to reading it.
Amazing book... very well writen and entertaining... One of those books that you just can't put down. You just have to keep in mind that this is a fictional book although it is based on some facts. FICTION!! Despite the odd religious views, it is quite a good read.

I received this book in the mail today. My mom, however, just gave me her copy of the book on Tuesday, so I am going to let this one continue its travels and get on to people who are waiting for it. Enjoy!
I received this in the mail on Friday and had to leave for a plane up to Seattle immediately- such disappointment... not only could I not take it with me, but I didn't even have time to journal it.
I am making up for lost time, however, by promptly ripping into it (the package, not the actual pages) and devouring the chapters (devouring in a metaphorical sense...he he). I began it this morning and have 20 pages left. Wow, is it ever good. In fact, what am I doing here typing this?

Okay, I heard back from Shellyann. It seems she is presently reading a copy of the book. So the next person is now Ri in Canada. But her profile page has this note:
Please note: From now until August 4, I will not be checking in on Bookcrossing on a regular basis. I am on staff at an international peace camp for 15 year olds and then taking the naturopathic medical board exams. After that I will be back full force!
I pm'd her and will see what happens, but should I offer the book to Casperette in Minnesota and then let Casperette send it to Ri?
What do you think, MoonDancer?
thanks,
abs
Also, thanks for organizing this whole thing. It was a great book.
Status: reserved- but for whom?

Whoops! My mistake.... I have had this book for a little over a week. I thought I had journaled it as received and I had not. I am starting it this morning as I sit out on my deck in the sun with a cup of coffee and a fat free crumpet with peanut butter on top. I am on chapter 4 and finding it off to a good begining....
Wow. I had heard so much about this book and while I was unsure if I would get a chance toread it, I am so glad that I did.
What a wonderful read! I found this to be an incredible mystery with lots of surprises and at the same time I learned a few things. I never knew a lot about Da Vinchi, but I feel I do now. I also had never heard of the Priory of Sion.
I loved the clues that the grandfather leaves... one I even figured out before they revealed the answer in the book.
This book I found to be very well written and I am glad I had this opportunity to read.

Reading about RI not being back to bookcrossing until August 4th, I am going to PM Christine71 for this book next and then this bookcrosser can contact RI to pass on to next. : )
I am so sorry. This book arrived a few days ago and my 'helpful' husband put it on my bookshelf before I even knew it arrived. I will read it just as quickly as I can and pass it on. Thank you!
This book certainly had me doing a LOT of thinking. It also made me realize how much I did not know about what I thought I DID know. I found this a very interesting read. I now want more copies of this book to release to others.

I'm glad I got the chance to read this. I found it interesting and thought provoking. Know I want to read more about some of the things mentioned in the book. Will send to az628 next.

RELEASE NOTES:
So Sorry I didn't journal this as received. Definately a great book, will send out to next on list. Thanks so much for making it available.
Thanks for sharing such a great book. I have sent this on to Ebumu. Hope you enjoy it too.
This arrived in yesterday's mail. I'm supposed to be visiting sunny Edmonton, Alberta right now, but I got thoroughly snowed in this weekend. (Rats, I was looking forward to swimming in the big wave pool in the giant mall there) We got over 2 feet of snow and we're expecting another 6 inches by tomorrow. It's an excellent time of year to snuggle up with a book and a cup of cocoa near my window that looks out onto snowy hemlocks. I'm really looking forward to reading this.
Wow, what a great, fast-paced book. It was very hard to put down. Very tight! I really enjoyed the cryptography lessons. It made me want to go out and leave an abstruse, intricate trail to, er...something.
How interesting that this novel spawned so much bitter outrage from christian journalists! Gosh, it's just a clever novel. I don't think this book is Dan Brown's attack on Christianity. Read it with a grain of salt, of course, and join me in marveling at the author's skill in weaving fiction around fact. Thanks very much for sharing, Moondancer11. Mailed to BernardSampson, first class, on Feb 4.

I received the book yesterday. I will start it tonight - looking forward to it!
I enjoyed the clever codes of this book but I think the prequel, Angels & Demons is better. The plot of The Da Vinci Code is virtually a carbon copy of Angels & Demons - lets hope Dan Brown comes up with something more original next time.
Posted to "wandering" today.
Candyfloss did not respond to PMs and gUNNYBUNNY has already read the book.

Received today! I have read 'Angels & Demons' before this one, and liked it, so I have high expectations for this one!
Finished the second half of this book in one go... exciting!
A little bit annoying is the constant use of cliffhangers at the end of each chapter, especially in the beginning. It obviously is a technique to keep the reader reading on. Apparently it works, because I couldn't help but keep reading, but I don't like noticing used techniques. If it stands out to me, it annoys me.
In comparison with 'Angels & Demons', the plot is less guessable. Some events, or the way the clues were to be solved, were predictable, but most came as a surprise. I sure couldn't guess the identity of 'the Teacher' in advance...
All of a sudden, I also understand all the books that are written about the Da Vinci code; what is fiction and what is fact? So there goes another book on the wish list... sigh. ;o)
Thanks for sharing, MoonDancer11! I will send it on soon...
:update:
Banshee, Xanocas, Crestfallen and gypsyrose02 have allready read this book. Waiting for an answer from veritas9...

Also, special thanks to the BCers who included postcards with the book. I may post pictures.... if I can find my scanner.
