I absolutely loved this book! I want to say it's a love story, but really, it's so much more. Matt Haig has become one of my favorite authors. Not only is this novel unique, but the writing is so wonderfully thought provoking.
"I loved her, instantly. Of course, most parents love their children instantly. But I mention it here because I still find it a remarkable thing. Where was that love before? Where did you acquire it from? The way that it is suddenly there, total and complete, as sudden as grief but in reverse, is one of the wonders of being human."
Love his unique sense of humor, too. "The great thing about being in your four hundreds is that you get the measure of someone pretty quickly." I mean, how great is that line? Spoken casually, the same way we would say "the great thing about being in your forties..."
I'm glad I read Reasons to Stay Alive, his memoir, before reading his novels. Although it's definitely not necessary to read it first, I do feel like it gave me some bonus insight into his works of fiction.
