Not my favourite Ben Elton novel. I tend to prefer his WW1 historical novels.
Someone mentioned this is like a play as most of the action takes place in a single room with the two main characters reminiscing about their past love affair. To be honest I found the first 3 quarters of the novel a bit plodding and it only hits its stride in the final quarter of the book when the reason for the male protagonists visit to his former lover becomes clear. Rating given for that final quarter
