I received this in yesterday's mail - wow! that was quick! Anyway, I'm just about done with my current read, then will get started on this one.

I'm sorry to say that I could not finish this book. I read about a third of it, then had to put it down. The writing style was a distraction to me (not sure how to best explain this), plus I could see where a certain thread of the story was leading and I did not want to read any further about that. Sorry, I know this is vague, but I don't want to give out spoilers in my entry. Anyway, I have the next person's address already and will mail this out Monday or Tuesday.

I'll be interested to see what everyone else's comments are. I'm disappointed in myself for not finishing it, but the story was just stressing me out, if that makes any sense.

received in the mail yesterday and read last night! It was a little slow at first, and yes, a little predictable at times, but overall I really enjoyed this book. It may have been because I grew up in England, and had a best friend like in the book - I certainly did some reminiscing. Also, I added a sheet with the meanings of some British terms in the book that some Americans may not be familiar with (I know, it's a hanging preposition!). It'll be on its way as soon as I get lonerunner's address.

I just received The Orchard on Fire from Lobodyke--thank you!
And thank you, cartref, for sharing so much:)

I relished this book--April's story of her childhood, and her friendship with Ruby, is one of the most poignant narratives I've read. There's a lot a misery in the life of two such young girls, who are keeping such big secrets from the adults--and some from each other, as well. It's incredible to think how many problems a child can keep to herself, to cope with, all alone. There are plenty of humorous touches, too, which help to make the book such an intoxicating read.

Thanks, Lobodyke, for the glossary :)

*bops and dances*

This arrived this morning in the mail - my postman is starting to comment over the books that arrive at my house ^_^ - I don't think he got over the 13 copies of Wild Animus that arrived on consecutive days.

I'm really looking forward to reading it - it's skipping to the top of my to-be-read pile - I'll probably start it this afternoon, if I have a few moments to spare. And all the bits and pieces that have found their way into the book! Thankyou!

I'll read and send on as soon as possible.

Loved this. Sorry I've had it for so long - the internet has been down, so I haven't been able to find out where to send it. ^_^ PMing gill846 now.

Seriously, this was magical. Delightfully detailed. A walk down a country lane...

Sorry that I've had this for so long - but I'm not getting any reply on where to send it - do I message the person after the next person, then?

Journal Entry 14 by eltala on Saturday, August 21, 2004
Went away in the post yesterday to Gill846.

Am so very sorry for the huge delay - there's just been a big family disaster and I've not been able to get onto the computer.
