CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
A bit of a slow read, but interesting story nevertheless. I could relate to Stella and her life very well actually...
Going to a sweepstakes winner. Enjoy! :)

Thank you; I like Ms Lively's novels, and I expect I will enjoy reading this one as well.
By the way, I love your label with the books crossing Abbey Road... :)

Currently reading it... and enjoying it so far! :)
Well, this is not a page-turner, but the story slowly grows on you...
Stella is a very interesting character, now in her 60s, and looking forward to getting settled down after a life of travels as an anthropologist... or maybe not ready for it?
There are descriptions of her different assignments over the years, and how she related to people in different communities. She finds it now difficult to stop analysing the inhabitants of this Somerset town in the same way... which creates some internal conflicts.
Some quotes:
"It is not entirely true that the English are a grudging lot, mean with their favours. If the approach is considered sufficiently harmless or even congenial, there is no stopping them." (True in my personal experience.)
"Possession of this, absence of these and those. We are defined by what we own, by what we are called."
"I'm not talking about nostalgia, sentiment... that stuff. What I mean is... fishing out good times and... having a sort of re-run. It can give you such a lift... the peculiar way it's all still THERE!" (In Stella's own words; and also true for me.)
I really enjoyed reading it, after a slow start.
Thanks for sharing, sakirmo; this little book will soon continue its travels. :)
