The back cover blurb says "A classic ghost story which tingles with fear, horror & shocks up to the very last paragraph" & I would agree with the bulk of that statement.

The first half of this book in particular was truly creepy & atmospheric & in the main I feel that this was achieved by the fact so much was left to the readers imagination because of what was not said...for example, & I quote:
"I do not want to tell you what we found in this room. Nor would you believe me if I told you"

For me that's much more scarey than a gruesome, gory description which so often go over the top in their attempt to shock!

My only criticism is that something about the reasoning behind Naomi's haunting didn't seem very satisfactory & thinking about the story afterwards there's one or two points that have me thinking "But why....?".

Far more often or not I feel let down or disappointed in the ending of a horror novel but the last couple of paragraphs of this I really liked as it was very apt conclusion & bought everything full circle.

Not sure where its going next, either a Bookbox or part of the Supernatural Sweepstakes, either way it will go to another BCer :o)

OMG!

Over the years I have read so much horror - Stephen King, Dean Koontz, MR James, etc - but I can't remember a book that quite got to me as this one did. Let's just say I was turning a lot more lights than normal when moving round the house after dark!

It's very atmospheric and the gory bits are implied rather than slapped around the reader's face - so much more effective as your imagination goes into overdrive. The author also leaves you to fill in some of the missing pieces of the story, or at least mull it over afterwards, as there are holes and there some things hinted at rather than explained. I kind of liked that and was completely satisfied by the ending ... although it came as a slight surprise.

Definitely recommended reading.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

I loved this little book, it was properly creepy in a spine chilling, can't leave it alone, raising the hairs on the back of your neck kind of way. One of those that you will think about for a while afterwards.

Off on a new adventure in a bookring.
