Hoot

I like Carl Hiaasen's column in my local newspaper, but somehow I couldn't get myself to like his fiction. I did, somehow, enjoyed this children fiction he wrote.
Hoot is about a boy, Roy, who recently moved to Florida. One day on the school bus, he noticed a weird boy running on bare foot, and was determined to find out his identity. Saying any more than this would review too much of the plot. Like most of his stories, it's full of quirky characters and an environmental message. Witty, funny and endearing, it is not surprising that this book has won plenty of awards.
