I'm in two minds about this book. There were things that I liked and things that I disliked.
I didn't really know much about what had happened in Iran so I found the historical information very interesting. It's disgraceful how women and so-called dissidents were treated. I also enjoyed her discussion of the themes and characters of novels like The Great Gatsby, Lolita and Pride and Prejudice. Although I haven't read many of the novels discussed I'll certainly seek them out in the future. Just what I need, more books on my wishlist!

However, I found _Reading Lolita in Tehran_ to be very disjointed and there didn't really seem to be any order to the novel. Rather, it seemed to be just a collection of her memories. I found it hard to relate to some characters as I'd forgotten who they when they were mentioned later in the book.

The book did score us a couple of points at trivia one week. We got two questions "Who was the author of The Great Gatsby?" and "What country was formerly Persia?". I was able to answer both of these because I'd recently read _Reading Lolita in Tehran_.

will be posting this to murmurr sometime this week.

Figured I had better make my journal entry now to let everyone know what was going on with this book.

Really enjoyed this book! Despite its disjointedness it gave an interesting insight into the what it was like to live in Tehran and how the events that were unfolding affected the lives of those there. The discussion of the books they read has prompted me to seek out those I haven't yet read and re-read those that I have. This book provided much food for thought.

Now on to what is happening... I finished the book back in December (naughty me for having it so long!) but to compound my tardyness getting to this book I've not yet been able to locate an address to forward it on to.

I haven't been able to raise fuji who is next on the list and eddi who is after is away on holidays. So I will send it on to eddi when she is back from holidays and I have the address, unless I hear from fuji in the mean time.

My apologies to all for holding this very interesting book up for so long.

Eddi has shamed me by sending this book to me before I have sent off a few books to her.

Thankfully I seem to be last on the list.
I say thankfully because I am getting even more book overload!

So into the pile it goes.

I stopped signing up for rings, beyond one or two, many moons again BUT they still keep coming.

So it there may be a delay til I get to this again.

Great big hello to you all
