Yet by the end of the World War II, when the netsuke were hidden from the Nazis in Vienna, this collection of very small carvings was all that remained of their vast empire.

I learned so much about life in Europe at the end of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century. As a lover of family history and old things (antique and vintage), I loved this book. It cannot be read quickly as there is a lot of information to digest when reading this book.
