From the back of the book:
"Cat Palmer realises that bringing a puppy into work is a bad idea - especially when it gets her the sack. Deciding it's the perfect opportunity to launch a dog-walking business, Cat enlists the help of flatmates Polly and Joe. After all Primrose Terrace, the street where they live, is full of home-alone hounds."
I enjoyed this book but the title is a bit misleading. Only the last handful of chapters are actually set at Christmas!

Happy Reading!
Happy Reading!
We will be having the yearly Finnish BC Christmas Calendar soon, when on each day of December before Christmas only a sentence of a Christmassy book will be given in the morning and those who want to win it, will put up their names. In the evening the book will be raffled, but the winner won't know what book it is before he or she gets it. Great fun! Judging by the name and cover of this book I was sure this would be a good choice, but having begun reading it and having re-read Trojanhorse's journal entry, I have to reconsider. Have to read on and make up my mind when I finally reach the Christmas part.
So far I would not trust my dog with Cat....

Real dog people never call a Border collie merely a collie, at least not when they first mention the breed. A collie is the breed made famous by Lassie. In the pic we have a Border collie.
For a minute I thought the writer actually knew something about veterinary nursing, namely that vet nurses are usually at work when normal people party and mingle. But then Polly made it to the party after all... happens hardly ever in real life. On the other hand, I do not mind. I do not like cocktail parties, where you should meet new people and be seen, small-talk meaningless chit-chat and look like you are having fun. Instead of finger food you are often offered something which actually would need a knife, a fork and a place to sit.

Hmm. Lizzie, 10, and Emma, 4, walking their Cockerspaniel puppy alone. I learned a few months ago that children under 12 years aren't allowed to be left alone at home or being outside unattended in the UK. Had to be taken and picked up to and from school. If that is true, how come these two young ladies were walking the dog?
I went to school either by two trams or by two buses. On the first year, when I was seven (we start school later than kids in the UK), I followed my older brother, but after that I always took the journey by myself, as most city-kids do. Google-map says the trip was 8,2 km.

Putting a puppy to sleep in a crate downstairs when everybody else sleeps elsewhere sounds foreign to me as I like to sleep in the same room where my dog is. How else would I know if something is the matter with her? And puppies do not just keep sleeping when you come downstairs and when you are house-training your puppy, you take her out before you do anything else. You don't make coffee first.
I have often wondered how unpractical British carpets are with puppies or any animal (or kids). When I have had puppies I roll my mats away and have a bare floor for the first six months.
I am not a keen fan of husky safari kennels they have in Norway or in Finnish Lapland, as animal welfare issues are usually not their priority. But Northern Lights are truly pretty. We were once coming back from Tromsa Dog Show with a bus we had rented for our clients and friends. The Best In Show dog was one of our clients, born at our clinic with a cesarean section and many others in the bus had also done well, so we were on high spirits and as we drove there in the middle of nowhere the night fell and from the bus window we a magical light show of Aurelia Borealis.

Can't believe this! This book is like Lassie, it keeps finding its way back home (without me knowing!). Found it today behind some TBR-books. Very cheeky.
