The Cuckoo's Calling

A gripping, elegant mystery steeped in the atmosphere of London - from the hushed streets of Mayfair to the backstreet pubs of the East End to the bustle of Soho - The Cuckoo's Calling is a remarkable book. Introducing Cormoran Strike, this is the acclaimed first crime novel by J.K. Rowling, writing under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.
When a troubled model falls to her death from a snow-covered Mayfair balcony, it is assumed that she has committed suicide. However, her brother has his doubts, and calls in private investigator Cormoran Strike to look into the case.
Strike is a war veteran - wounded both physically and psychologically - and his life is in disarray. The case gives him a financial lifeline, but it comes at a personal cost: the more he delves into the young model's complex world, the darker things get - and the closer he gets to terrible danger . . .

The first in the Cormoran Strike series, J.K. Rowing's move into crime writing, does not disappoint. Strike is a private detective with a famous father. Having lost a leg, left the military, and then split up with the glamorous Charlotte, he's deep in debt and down on his luck. Robin, his assistant, knows he can't afford to keep her on - and she's just got engaged to boyfriend Matthew who disapproves of Strike. When the brother of supermodel Lula Landry asks Strike to investigate her supposed suicide, Strike wants to turn it down but he finds himself believing she may really have been murdered and soon finds himself embroiled in the model's world of designers, high flying lawyers and those who clutched at her coat-tails trying to get an advantage. Rowling writes as well as ever and this is a real page-turner.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Put into the 'Birds' bookring.
I'm taking out this book from "Birds" bookring. It's time to read something new written by J. K. Rowling. Thank you.
Picked it up at the book exchange zone at the Valters&Rapa bookstore in Old Riga. I wanted to read this book by J.K. Rowling's alter ego.
