The Book of Illusions: A Novel
4 journalers for this copy...
If you loved the New York Trilogy and are already an Auster fan then you will enjoy this book. Auster's style and even some of the themes in Illusions are consistent with his older works.
If you have never read Auster (and you should!), this is as good a place as any to start. It is part tragedy, mystery and adventure with complex characters and a captivating storyline. It is an easy bedtime read and not taxing on the brain but also written with intelligence.

The eye on this book was waiting for me...
I've read other Paul Auster books (and am a fan of Sophie Calle, French conceptual artist who inspired a character in Leviathan, another Auster book). His work is thoughtful, interesting, and plays with many levels of meaning.
See 'Double Game' if you're really interested in how art and literature and life can combine...
There is a nice sense of revisionist history here, and a story about the importance and fragility of artwork, of things that matter.
