The story of Dinah, the only daughter of biblical Jacob, told in her own haunting words.
This book took me by surprise with its insight into women's society in this dark and far away history. Until recently I've never had much use for the Bible and religion at all. And while reading the Bible at present I am always unhappy about how few women are mentioned in it.
This book takes at least some of them out of obscurity and tells us how women lived in this time, what they felt, whom they loved. It may or may not have been exactly like this. That doesn't matter. It is in any case great story telling and as such certainly worth reading. I can fully recommend this book to anyone interested in history from a female standpoint.
It is one of my favorite books and I’d like to start a bookring with it to share it with as many people as possible, before I put it in my permanent collection.

“If you sit on the bank of a river, you see only a small part of its surface. And yet, the water before your eyes is proof of unknowable depths…
Blessings on your eyes and on your children. Blessings on the ground beneath you. Wherever you walk, I go with you.
Selah.”

The book arrived yesterday!
Thank you samulli! We'll read it soon with Satya (who's in the picture!)!

We finished reading this book last night, and we truly enjoyed it. It was well-written, interesting story of Dinah, Jacob's daughter. The story travelled from the borders of Syria & Iraq to Canaan and ancient Egypt. It was a delightening story of a woman's life in the ancient world before Christ, that you don't hear to be spoken of too often.
Thank you once again samulli, the book will contiue it's journey soon!

As many of the important stories of this book were located in Shechem, ancient Israel, I will put this book also to my "Book from every country of the World"
-challenge (to be the book about Israel).

Sorry to be slow in letting you know that this book arrived, I have been away for the weekend and logging the book was the first thing I've done since I walked in the door.

Thank you so much for the chocolate you left inside (and the very decorative packaging).

I am really looking forward to reading this book, so I'm off to get started!

I really loved this story, there were certain parts where I just wanted to jump into the plot and help the characters I liked, or bring justice to those I didn't. It's been a long time since I have been quite so engrossed by a storyline.

Will be sending this one on tomorrow. Sorry about the delay, I did finish it on Monday night, but due to working hours I havn't managed to get to an open post office.

I had wanted to read this book for a long time and I was not dissapointed. I really enjoyed the story and style of writing. I liked the insight into the time period and women's lives in general.

I apologize for holding on to this book for a few extra weeks. I wound up having a bunch of rings/rays come at the same time and my life was extra hectic this month- finals, work, a mini vacation...I will be mailing this book off to the next reader on MOnday. Thank you so much for sharing!!!!

This was a wonderful story. Yes, it sent me to t he bible to look for the reference.

I forgot this was part of a bookring and passed it on to someone else to read. However, I am trying to get another copy to continue the bookring.

As for the bookring list, I'm contacting people to see who wants it next. moraelyn has already read it and will pass on the bookring.

Journal Entry 15 by samulli from Weimar, Thüringen Germany on Sunday, September 3, 2006
I decided to close down this ring, since the original copy is now gone somewhere else.
Cross-patch has generously offered to finish the ring with her own copy, the journal of which can be found here.
I have contacted the remaining 2 participants already and told them of the change. Thanks to everybody who took part in this bookring. I am glad you all enjoyed the book.
