A police murder investigation is linked to politics, Japanese who want to take over American business, and the US government. As I read this book, I wondered if the statistics scattered throughout it about the Japanese buying American businesses, all the laws opposing American business in Japan, and the facts about American policy are still holding true. I checked the copyright date, 1992, and if all of the facts sprinkled throughout this fictious story are true, I hope that things have changed since then. This story was one of those that are supposed to make you think about America and where it is headed.
I found the book suspenseful, but the ending a little confusing, with all of the people that where supposed to be involved in the murder and why.
I have also read some about Japan, and the author's potrayal of the culture seemed to leave a lot out. For instance, there where tidbits in their about how hung up on sexualty America is as opposed to the Japanese. It seemed as though the author wanted to say that the Japanese are more open and realistic about sex. I have read several articles and such about how the cultural is obsesssed with sexualizing young girls. For instance, young girls' used panties are sold in vending machines in Japan to grown men. This sexualization of youth was not mentioned at all in this book nor taken in account when favorable statements were made about the Japanese in regards to how they feel about sex. It just makes me wonder if all of the other things the author is trying to potray are skewed by how he (the author) wants America to be percieved compared to Japan.

I always thought America is totally strong,no matter in economy or military. But after reading this book, it seem that Japan is more powerful in economy. Is it true?
