trade-size paperback.

from the back cover:
Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead. She may leave the home of the Commander and his wife once a day to walk to food markets whose signs are now pictures instead of words because women are no longer allowed to read. She must lie on her back once a month and pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, because in an age of declining births, Offred and the other Handmaids are valued only if their ovaries are viable. Offred can remember the years before, when she lived and made love with her husband, Luke; when she played with and protected her daughter; when she had a job, money of her own, and access to knowledge. But all of that is gone now.

Compelling read.

Journal Entry 3 by J_Lynn at Atlanta, Georgia USA on Tuesday, September 5, 2017
It's been many years since I originally read the Handmaid's Tale and I had been planning to re-read it in the near future. Imagine my surprise when I saw it on a table in a ladies' restroom this weekend during Dragon Con in Atlanta. I saw the Book Crossing sticker on the front and I was immediately intrigued. What a wonderful idea and I'm excited to be a part of this novel's journey. This was my first Dragon Con (why on Earth did I wait so long to go?) and this definitely added to my special experience this weekend. Once I've (re)read the novel, I'll be sure to release it and update my entry. Thank you so much for releasing this book and introducing me to this wonderful concept!
