The second part of Dahl's autobiography (after Boy) - his first job in Africa, working for Shell in Kenya, and his time as fighter pilot in WWII, in Africa, Egypt, Greece, Syria and Palestine. It is very simply written, introduces some eccentric characters and sets the background to many of his future tales. It also demonstrates Dahl's great knack of storytelling.
This book is released in memory of Cody, father of bookcrossers frs44 and truthteller.
As it contains much about small aircraft - Tiger Moth, Hurricane, Messerschmitt, Ju 88s, Stuka - I thought a suitable release place would be the small airport in Lausanne, at Blécherette. There are some good photos on the
airport site and some spectacular photos of the runway ;if you scroll down to the one captioned " 28 mars 2004 un coup d’œil à droite ", you’ll get a good view of the apartment building we lived in for 22 years (the long building with orange blinds).
