Barbara Hambly's historical mysteries featuring the adventues of surgeon, musician, and free man of color Benjamin January in 1830's New Orleans rate very high on my lists of favourite things to read.
Although Hambly occasionally forgets to tell us where we are and who is in the scene and where people have gotten off to--these are books that need some attention while reading to keep track of who and where and when and what we are....
But they reward.
I'll try to release this one tonight or tomorrow. Possibly at a ritzy restaurant :-)
