Brilliant story of eighteenth century Korea brought into the twenty-first century with fascinating characters in both eras. It is a beautifully written piece of historical fact blended with fiction. I found the first half rather drawn out. The second half rocketed along and held my attention like a limpet on a rock. As a bonus I discovered something of the history of Korea and it's Royal family. Knowing a little of the country's past does shed some light on the current situation there.

Not sure what I was expecting from Drabble as this is my first experience with this writer but it was a surprisingly compelling read. The story of the Red Queen is worthy, the story-telling technique quite courageous, she even inserts herself into this historical novel, referring to her character as a writer and using her own name. Worth reading.
