For me, this was one of those “not good but fun anyway” books. Honestly, the writing was pretty stilted, with real clunky dialogue, but the pacing and tantalizing unraveling of the yarn kept me interested. 90% of the characters are dully fulfilling their plot-appointed role, with little pretense at being more than a paper person, but they are an entertaining set of paper dolls!

This was a pretty perfect option for a mindless fluff novel, and it fulfilled that role nicely.
