Acid Row

A chilling story first published in 2001, not long after the horribly similar incidents in Portsmouth. From the back cover:
"Acid Row. The name the beleaguered inhabitants give to the place they live. A no-man's-land of single mothers and fatherless children where angry, alienated teenagers control the streets.
"Into this battleground comes Sophie Morrison, a young doctor visiting a patient in Acid Row. Little does she know that she is entering the home of a known paedophile. And with reports circulating that a tormented child called Amy has disappeared, the vigilantes are out in force..."

Received on the other side of the pond. I have thoroughly enjoyed previous Minette Walters books, and look forward to this one. Thank you nyassa, for the book and the great postcards!
I've read most of Minette Walters' other books, and probably liked this one less than the others. It has a much darker and more evil tone than previous books. The suspense was certainly there, plus the edgy, psychological view of the characters. Overall, a good read, but maybe more appropriate to a dark, cold, rainy, weekend, instead of summer (even though the events occur in the summer).
