I'm just not sure about this book. I found it fascinating and frustrating. It felt fairy taleish. I did enjoy the way the recipes were intertwined with the story. I'll look for a good home for this book.

I'll start this as a bookray. When you receive the book, please make a journal entry letting us know you have it. When you are done, please journal again with your thoughts on the book. Contact the next person on the list via PM for their mailing address. Final mailing order below:

1. rarsberry - NZ (Aus/NZ)
2. newk - Aus (Intl)
3. moraelyn - US (US) no response to PM's - skipped
4. MollyGrue - US (US)

Arrived in my letterbox last Saturday.
Sorry I've taken so long to catch it.
Thank you to lauraloo29 for starting the bookray. :o)

Journal Entry 6 by rarsberry from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Monday, August 2, 2004
I liked most of this book.
It was an interesting idea to put the actual recipes into the story the way the author did.
And to grow up with Tita and her way of life, I felt sorry for her while she had to look after her mother, knowing that she might never be able to get married etc.
However I didn't really like the ending, it kinda ending suddenly, like the book needed to be ended somehow.
And maybe it was just me, but at times I had trouble following what was happening, especially between Tita and John, things just seemed to happen.

Anyway I enjoyed the book over all.
Now I'll PM newk to let him know the book is soon to be on its way. :o)

This book is *just* keeping my interest and I should be soon finished one way or the other.

I am still working my way through this book. I really want to finish but may not. I was talking to a couple of literate friends over the weekend and they were telling that this style of writing is known as "magical realism" and is common in South American literature.
I don't think it is for me!
I have PMed the next two in line.

Thanks to you all.
I promise to keep in touch

Finished. An unusual book. Not sure what else to say. Thanks to smilingsun for putting this book into the system. And laurloo29 for starting the ray and rasberry for passing it on. It will be off to Mollygrue in the next day or so. With a lovely newspaper clipping about platypus. Just for the hell of it.
I'll make a journal entry to confirm it's on its way.
This picture has absolutely nothing to do with the book except that it has water in it. It was taken at Lake Como in northern Italy earlier this year.

It's certainly been fun watching this book travel. I sent it to lauraloo because I couldn't get interested in it, and then she started a ring! It's had a nice journey so far......!

It is indeed one of the joys of bookcrossing..watching books travel around. This book is now in the postal system. Posted yesterday at Castle Plaza in a pre paid envelope. Worry after a month but should be quicker.

I will get to this as soon as I can. Thanks!

For some reason, I had been dreading reading this book, but once I got into it last night, I could hardly put it down. Wonderful story of delayed love and food. :) I did wish she could have married John, but on the whole I was satified with the ending.

Now making this available to continue the ray. ;)
