The blurb:
We all love hedgehogs, don’t we? How could anybody fail to be charmed by the cute and bashful little creatures? There’s one, though, that’s a bit different from the rest. . .
Irascible, aggressive, and foul-mouthed, this is one hedgehog you wouldn't want to see waddling across your patio in search of trouble. Only a fool would mess with him, but under his spines he can be a softie too, a frustrated romantic who sometimes just needs a hug from his grandma.
The Cursing Hedgehog by Milla Paloniemi (1983-) is a bestselling and award winning Finnish comic strip that has reached its fifth collection in the original language. This is the first time the hedgehog has been spotted cursing in English. Welcome to the real world of hedgehogs!

I’ve read a few Cursing Hedgehogs in Finnish some years ago. I remember thinking that the idea is good, but I got bored pretty soon. This time I found myself thinking that Milla Paloniemi must love Tunteellinen siili, one of the poems in Tiitiäisen satupuu (‘The Tumpkin’s story tree’), children’s poetry book by Kirsi Kunnas. (Viivi Parma has translated Tunteellinen siili into English and published it in her blog, Echoes of an Open Soul. You can check the poem youself: Sentimental Hedgehog)
Also, it came to my mind that hedgehogs—even the cursing one—reflect pretty well the image of Finnish people. We, too, hide our goodness, sweetness, and tenderness (or whatever) under that spiky shell and then cry alone at night ’cause the others don’t seem to understand how truly nice we are. It’s so funny how differently one sees things when reading the same book in different languages. In any case, my point is that these strips seem deeper in English than in their original language. Thanks for the translation.

This book is my new # 2 May offer in One book a month thread.

Well hello there Tarna's book! Since I've read my fair share of Hedgehogs in Finnish, I'll just help it continue on its way...

At the London bookcrossing meetup Pippis offered this book to me, and I jumped at the chance to finally read the Hedgehog cartoons. I know of them but have not read before either in Finnish or English.

I went through the book on the train and loved it. I will hold on to the book for a bit as I want to show it to some friends who I know will appreciate the humour.
