This arrived today. Thank you so much! I've heard lots of good things about this series, so I'm eager to try it.
I enjoyed this first volume. I somehow hadn't realized until I saw the book in person that Kieron Gillen was the author, and it definitely has his trademark snarky writing style, which works particularly well for the sibling-banter and the GotG crew. The pacing is interesting, alternating times as character recount past events, and making frequent use of large, elaborate layouts that nicely convey the mythical tone of these sections. The color is gorgeous; rich and heavy with a painterly look we rarely see in sci-fi comics.
My biggest irritation was character design. I loved having a couple diverse body types for our main heroines, since often they all look the same with different hair, but the "sexy" lingerie armor and forced posing were annoying. We got one explanation, for the magical wedding outfit Angela dons which becomes whatever the wearer finds beautiful, but for the most part, I found it hard to believe these warriors would choose to wear an outfit where the belt is the item that offers the most coverage!
