This book is from a tennis club I was visiting in Burlington. There was a pile of free books and since I'm reading another memoir of a Chinese-Canadian childhood, (Midnight at the Dragon Cafe), I thought I'd bring it home.
Oddly, I had this one on my physical shelf for years then ended up passing it along to someone else, unread. I have heard such good reviews of it, though, that I think I would like to give it a try.
PS: Hi Jessibud: I just got a JE from mathgirl40. She just picked up "Midnight at the Dragon Cafe" from HH Pub, while in TO for a visit. She lives in K/W. I read "Midnight..." right before "The Concubine's...". They worked very well together. I cannot remember if you've read Wayson Choy's very good growing-up-in-Chinatown" memoir, but it's the perfect one to make a triple play!
I am in frenzy mode - trying to whittle down the number - an overwhelming number! - of books on the shelves. I am starting with books I have read but no longer need to hold on to and also titles I just don't think are on the horizon for me. This is one of those. I will release it tomorrow at our OBCZ when we meet for lunch at Harbord House
