I thought I'd try some chick lit
The story was well-paced and entertaining, but the characters weren't very likable. After reading so much literary "highbrow" fiction, it was a new experience for me to read a book with current cultural references (Will and Grace, current movies, etc). My first experience with chick lit...I'm willing to try some more but unsure whether I like it enough to make it part of my steady diet.
To synopsize: Sarah, a small-time girl, moves to LA with plans to marry her fiance of 5 years, Benjamin. A few days later, Benjamin reveals that he will be unable to join her for a while and she is forced to find a job and a roommate quickly. Enter the LA characters, focused on partying and stereotypic Generation X lifestyles. The engagement breaks off, Sarah learns the fast-paced lifestyle, and chaos and drama ensue.

This one arrived in my mailbox today...It looks really cute (I snuck a read of the first couple of pages, but felt guilty because I just received a BookRing book yesterday that I need to get finished first.) Thanks for the cute little contest, bluedevils, that allowed me to "win" this one! :o) Just so you know...I have Duke picked to win the next round...was thinking of you as I made my picks!! :o)
This one caught my attention before it ever made it into my TBR pile! I love how Sarah tried numerous times to be somebody she definitely was not...and in the end she was able to make a good start down the path to actually being herself. I think I am a bit jealous of Sarah, who was given the chance to totally remake her life at a time when there were little or no consequences...all I know, is that I am way past that point!! :o)
Thanks for sharing bluedevils!! Go DUKE!!! :o)
I'm going to hold this one to go into a Chick-Lit box that is headed my way! :o)

Can't believe I missed journalling this one! I really enjoyed the story of the British girl in Hollywood and her trials and tribulations. Cute from start to finish.

got this in the perpetual chicklit bookbox today......thanks!
I really liked this one. As mentioned above, I think I was most attracted to the ability to practice recreating yourself without affecting others. (erica ~ I too am WAY beyond that point). I saw pieces of myself in each of the leading gal characters.........
