Received from the wonderful Sparkish as part of the wishlist tag game. :-)
This was a great read and I devoured it pretty much in one sitting. It was kind of an outdoor version of a locked room mystery, so a bit different to the usual. I also liked the background thread of the history between Shaw and Valentine.
Will try to get this moving again soon.

And off it goes to the winner of the tea and mystery sweeps. Happy reading!
Thank you, Bookfrogster!
I am looking forward to reading this book, as you have enjoyed it so much. Besides, I prefer reading the first in a series than being caught in the middle!!
Thanks also for the assorted tea and friendly card; you have been a star!!

Currently reading it. :)
I'm sorry, I am giving this up...
The start was promising, as bookfrogster mentioned, kind of a locked room mystery in a closed road... but then other sub-plots appeared, many characters which I could not find interesting and kept mixing up... I don't know, maybe this is not the right book for me at this time, I was not looking forward to picking it up every night.
Shaw and Valentine are great characters, nevertheless, and their dynamics was really interesting.
It will soon continue its travels, I am sure someone else will appreciate it more.

Really enjoyed this book. I've not read any of Jim Kelly's work before and I will definitely look out for more in the future. I really liked the two detectives and thought the descriptions of locations and the weather were quite evocative. Even reading this on a bright and sunny May day, I felt the coldness of winter! It also made me think of visiting the Norfolk coastline, which is an area I've yet to explore, as it sounded so beautiful. The one jarring aspect I didn't like was the writer's derogatory description of a character with a chronic illness and her weight. It's a shame such shallowness made it through the edit. Overall a good book.
