From the back cover:
"Mrs Creasy is missing and The Avenue is alive with whispers. As the summer shimmers endlessly on, ten-year-olds Grace & Tilly decide to take matters into their own hands. But as doors and mouths begin to open and the cul-de-sac starts giving up its secrets, the amateur detectives will find more than they could have imagined...."
A lovely book, set during three months of the very hot summer in 1976. it is quirky and sometimes funny but also tackles deep prejudices when a woman goes missing and all eyes are focussed on Walter Bishop who is a little strange. After all he did take a baby 9 years prior....didn't he? The story is also intermittently narrated through the eyes of the children Grace & Tilly who try to find the missing woman by looking for God first.
