Okay in parts. The first two chapters seem separate and reminiscent of "Invisible Cities" by Calvino.

The mundanity of casual human relationships are conveyed well, though the lack of any names for the characters is annoying at times.

A work of great imagination, remarkably mature and confident for a debut novel from someone still in their mid-twenties.

This novel is stylistically daring, crammed with startling metaphors and, at times, very moving. Occasionally, however, the excessive stylisation is a distraction and almost a hindrance.

Several people have commented on the lack of names; in addition, the wayward punctuation is often a distraction which on occasion forced me to reread a sentence to capture its meaning. It's unlikely that a writer of this intelligence and sensitivity simply doesn't know how to punctuate; but if the idiosyncratic punctuation is an attempt to capture the free association of interior monologue, it simply doesn't always work (or at least didn't always work for me).

But these are minor criticisms: overall, this work is a remarkable thing that deserves to be spoken of.

I'm planning to be at the next London meet-up in a week's time (11 May) and intend to release this book back into the wild then.

Picked up at last night's meet-up.
Was highly recommended and sounds like a worthwhile read - the prose style is very interesting.

Picked up at the BCUK Unconvention. Have heard so many things about this book, and really must experience it for myself. I will then pass it on to a new reading group at work, as an example of local writers (with Jon now living in Nottingham). Thanks, londonmet!
