This book is finally on its way to WAM. I was awaiting his postal address on 3/11 and of course that delayed everything, not just my sending this book. Now the spirit of international understanding and the spirit of bookcrossing in which I send this book is more important to us than ever. Wishing peace and love to WAM and whoever might read this book in the future.

Just arrived! Thank you very much, islandmomma. You are right, the circumstances in which this book was promised and the delay in the actual exchange give it an added value that I will not forget easilly... Still, it is now safe with me, and I hope it will travel through other good hands after.

For the time being, as much as I would like to start whith it at once, I have to put it aside for a while, because I have some rings that I would not like to delay. But i'll read it ASAP and journal it. Thank you again. (And you know: "te debo una").

As I told islandmomma in a PM, I like reading what foreign authors write on Spain. They often help me understand my own country. This book, to tell the truth, did not really belong in that category, as I had assumed, because Stewart does not judge, question or comment even the crudest habits of the local people (as the chapter on “matanza”, the yearly killing of pigs, proves). He just takes them as naturally as they are natural, and the result is a very faithful portrait, on one hand, and on the other a show of sympathy that makes all characters, including some rather unpleasant, likeable.

That makes “Driving over lemons” all the more enjoyable. An Englishman and his wife buy a house in the Alpujarras, the mountain area near Granada, and move there to settle to an idillic life… or so they hope. A very amusing story, at times hilarious, that reminded me of the misadventures -and the stile- of Bill Bryson, one of my favorite travel authors. Why do British authors tell their travel stories in such a way that one enjoys even the worst moments they have to suffer?.

Thank you again, islandmomma. I enjoyed your book very much, and will see to it that it goes on travelling.

I''ve finally got around to reading this book (I''ve been swamped by rings and rays, so RABCKs weren''t a priority...)

I''ve really enjoyed reading it. Chris Stewart takes Spain and Spaniards as they are, without criticizing or comparing to other countries. He doesn''t sound bitter from his bad experiences, just admits he was wrong trusting someone or doing something, and moves on.
I guess I should learn from him and his attitude in life!

Thank you for sharing this book with me.

Now I''ll try to find someone interested in reading it so it goes on travelling...
