"There once was a man who, one night between the main course and the sweet at a dinner party, went upstairs and locked himself i one of the bedrooms of the house of the people who were giving the dinner party..."

I didn't know what to expect when I started reading this book. What a delightful surprise. It's funny, it's at times sad, it's words, words, words, sentences, paragraphs. It's whimsical, it's a pure joy to READ. I think it was clever and literary if the latter makes sense. I think it's just wonderful to be a reader and come across books that give you this much pleasure to read.

This was a nice surprise. Thanks a lot, aava!

27.4.2021:

What a wonderful novel, rich in both content and language! The four protagonists each tell their own stories of people related to each other and especially to the key characters Miles Garth and Brooke Bayoude.

Miles attended dinner and locked himself in the host’s guest room. It gave birth to a great media circus and one - but not the only - subject to Ali Smith’s delicious satire.

Brooke is a smart 11-year-old girl whose puns and nonsense have surely been a challenge for the translator. That's why I kept this English edition at hand, even though I read mostly the Finnish one, Oli kerran kello nolla, literally "Once upon a time it was nothing o'clock".

I loved Miles because I felt like I had a soulmate in him. In Brooke too.
