A super predator, as the theory goes may evolve rapidly after a large population increase of a successful species. In fact the book suggests that this happened to cause the extinction of the highly successful dinosaurs. Super predators develop quickly due to an available niche and abundant food source. Due to their killing success, they cause rapid extinction of their host and themselves. Since they have developed and then died off rapidly, there is little in the fossil record and they are easily missed.

Just found the book, and plan to read it when time allow. Could be interesting, although it is not typical of a book I would pick up. However, I am a museum professional who tends to work in the basement with the collections. Will it give me bad dreams?? Oh my. ;)
