I enjoyed this very much. It was sort of a historical romance, although not exactly a romance. It has an element of cartomancy and herbalism, two of my interests. And it has a slight intersection with the very first actual historical romance I ever read, Desiree, about the woman who was the spurned mistress of Napoleon and went on to marry Jean Baptiste Bernadotte, who became the king of Sweden and founder of the royal family that still rules Sweden.
