Along with not only the other 2 Mma Ramotswe books, but the remaining 2 Philip Pullman triology books too. oh dear, this might take me a while..

Journal Entry 6 by kangaroo from Barnet, Greater London United Kingdom on Thursday, June 10, 2004
Well, ok, it didn't take that long. I reckon under a month is quite good turn-around for 5 books (and counting...)

The No. 1 books really are No. 1 in my book!
(sorry!)

Journal Entry 7 by Lady-Mondegreen from Basingstoke, Hampshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, June 15, 2004
I received this today (Thanks!) along with books 3 & 4. I read book 1 at Christmas and I have books 2&3 in my personal collection (at the bottom of a big pile and waiting me to finish all the rings and rays I keep getting!) I have to read them right away now so I can read the copy of 4 that came with them - did that all make sense? Am I blathering on?? I don't think I even signed up for these! It must be karma!

Just finished this morning and have started on The Kalahari Typing School for Men so I will be able to send all three off to Weebly next week. Not bad going.

I am enjoying this delightful series very much. The wonderful cast of characters, and the descriptions of Botswana add up to charming, evocative and hugely original. I was very, very slightly less impressed with the story in this one because I found something in the continuity that didn't quite add up to me in the story of The Government official. But it didn't really detract that much, it is still great and it could be due to the fact I am trying to read them quickly and get them off as they came to me in error (and I have another series of books which I have just read in a similar way!).

Journal Entry 8 by weebly from Hartwell, Northamptonshire United Kingdom on Monday, July 5, 2004
Great - thanks for these 3 books, I am looking forward to reading them.

Journal Entry 9 by weebly from Hartwell, Northamptonshire United Kingdom on Thursday, July 15, 2004
I am enjoying these books more with each one I read. I like the added interest with the expamsion of the characters in each book. I wonder what the next one will bring? In this book MMe Ramotswe's assistant Mme Makuti has a much bigger role, and the apprentices in the garage are licked into shape. I am already 30 pages into the 4th book, so I may even be able to pass all 3 books on at the unconvention on Saturday!

I may also let my super fast reading neice read this - she seems to read a book a day and will finish this before Saturday when I need to pass them on!

Journal Entry 10 by sandyundead from Reading, Berkshire United Kingdom on Friday, July 16, 2004
This was handed to me by my aunty weebly to try and read frantically before the convention tomorrow - I sense reading late into the night/in the car coming on :) It's a good job I'm not driving really!

Journal Entry 11 by sandyundead from Reading, Berkshire United Kingdom on Thursday, July 22, 2004
Oops! Forgot to put a journal entry on here when I finished it, due to all the unconvention excitement :) I enjoyed this just as much as the other books in the series. It was nice to find out more about the minor characters in the story and to see Mma Makutsi having more of a role.

Journal Entry 12 by weebly from Hartwell, Northamptonshire United Kingdom on Thursday, July 22, 2004
Sent in the post today as poor oblivious was too unwell to join the festivities.

Collected from sorting office after they spent a brief holiday there - sorry for the delay!

Journal Entry 14 by oblivious1980 from Sheffield, South Yorkshire United Kingdom on Friday, December 10, 2004
Again, I loved this book, I am almost sad to get to the end of each one because they are just so "nice". It's refreshing to read things as there has been no need to embellish them in any way, they are just lovely as they are.

Off to MarianFrench with the others!

Journal Entry 15 by MarianFrench from Buxton, Derbyshire United Kingdom on Monday, December 13, 2004
All three books arrived today, thanks Marian

Journal Entry 16 by MarianFrench from Buxton, Derbyshire United Kingdom on Monday, January 17, 2005
I too am really enjoying these books. They are really engaging "simple life" stories and you can't get too much of that these days!! Mr JLB Matekoni hardly features in this book - were the men folk taking too big a part in the stories I wonder? Will keep this aside until I have read "The Kalahari Typing School for Men"

Journal Entry 17 by laura0141 from Glasgow, Scotland United Kingdom on Friday, February 4, 2005
Received with thanks.

Journal Entry 18 by Drusillamac from Glasgow, Scotland United Kingdom on Tuesday, March 29, 2005
I had forgotten I had signed up for this ring. Thanks Kleptokitty and Laura0141 for sharing.

Journal Entry 19 by Drusillamac from Glasgow, Scotland United Kingdom on Thursday, April 7, 2005
I bought the first two books in this series ages ago and was really excited by them. However, the real world stepped in and I lost a little interest in the series. Thankfully, my excitement has been restored.

I am amazed by McCall Smith's style - the books are written in simple language but is constructed in such a beautiful way. You can imagine the characters visually. I really enjoyed this way as it showed more of Mma Makutsi's character and filled in more detail to her background. Also, her more prominent role in this book has shown (to me anyway) a potential romance with another character later on in the book.

I am now tearing my way through The Kalahari Typing School for Men which looks to be just as brillant as the first three were.

Journal Entry 20 by Katweeble from Towcester, Northamptonshire United Kingdom on Friday, April 15, 2005
Wouldn't you just know it - wait for an age for a book and 2 turn up together! Sandy has just got back from ex mother in laws with these books! Will pass these on and keep the others to keep the ring moving!

Journal Entry 21 by perfect-circle from Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom on Friday, April 29, 2005
Picked these up from the post office today. I'm afraid it'll be a couple of weeks before I read them as I am just about to go away. I hope this is OK.

Journal Entry 22 by perfect-circle from Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom on Thursday, May 26, 2005
Again, beautiful language and excellent writing. There's a mention in the front of the books about a tv series which I shall be looking out for.

Journal Entry 23 by Fofum from Beverley, East Yorkshire United Kingdom on Sunday, June 5, 2005
Arrived last week, along with two others. I'll read them in order and pass them on once I've done. Thanks for sending them on.

Journal Entry 24 by Fofum from Beverley, East Yorkshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, August 16, 2005
Another great set of stories, pulled together by a plot that lets us get to know the key characters a little better. There was quite a concentration of wisdom on the human condition in this one, but the homily was sugared with beautiful descriptions of Botswana; I was particularly touched with the wait for and arrival of the rains. I ended up wanting to be assured that Mr JLB Matekoni gets better - just as well I have the next one awaiting me in the TBR pile!
I'll send this one on its way now and start the next episode over the next couple of weeks. Thanks for including me in these rings; I am really enjoying this series of books.

I finally got round to this! As always, I slipped into Botswana life so easily. I love the way the names roll of your tongue. I can't wait to start the next one.

Have pm'ed Wyldetwo for her address.

Book ring book - arrived safely. Looking forward to reading these, but am going to get No 1 out from the library first (since I now have #2 and #3 it would make sense!), but since I commute 2 hours daily, it won't take long to get on to these :)
