Teenager Nomi Nickel is struggling with her complicated life in a small Mennonite town. She lives with her religious father. Her sister and mother both left and are excommunicated. She would like to escape too but doesn’t want to leave her father, and struggles with the “what ifs” if she abandons the Mennonite teachings.
Those of us who grow up immersed in religion, particularly in a small community, can relate to Nomi and the restlessness that comes from it.
