News of the World

I picked this book from a Little Free Library in Montgomery, Alabama USA. From the blurb, I've learned that it's historical fiction, one of my favorite genres, based in the Old West Texas, post American Civil War.
I just finished reading this book, started it three days ago. It is a wonderful book, interesting characters, lively plot, uncertainty, and a satisfying end. I learned about the plight of old west pioneer children, kidnapped by native Americans and later (perhaps many years later) returned to relatives. I also learned about the practice of itinerate news readers, men traveling from town to town where newspapers were scarce and reading news stories to crowds of people who paid admission to hear them.
