Of Mice and Men

This is going to be my second choice for this year's favourite book roundabout. I know choosing a classic might not be the best idea, as chances are many of you will have read it already. But many of last year's other good reads were either too long, in Dutch, or books from last year's roundabout! So here goes, enjoy!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
On its way to dark-draco!
Thank you - received yesterday.
I've only recently read this - well July 2015, which is a bit close for a re-read. So I'll post this along to the next person ASAP.
This is my review from last year ....
"I have to admit to just picking this up from Mount-TBR just because it was short and I'm slightly behind on my Goodreads 2015 challenge ... so wasn't expecting a lot. But I was pleasantly surprised by what a great little novella this is. You meet the characters quite quickly and for only a short amount of time, yet they are sketched out in such amazing detail that you feel you've been with them for a much longer tale. Lennie is both tragic and slightly scary, someone without a mean bone in his body and yet can kill so easily. His dream of rabbits, alfalfa and living of the fat of the land is probably something a lot of people can relate to even today, and his friendship with George, who you also end up feeling for, is sweet.
Overall, a great, short read, with a lot of 'things-to-think-about' crammed into relatively few pages. Go read it!"

Received in the Favourites roundabout - always meant to read this and never got round to it, so this is a good excuse!

A short book, but it's exactly as long as it needs to be to tell its story. A gripping picture of two men running out of options. I'm not sure I agree with its implied conclusions, but it's beautifully, vividly written. Well worth reading.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Sending on in the roundabout. Sorry - taking the opportunity to send two books at once.
This one I'm sure I read some long time ago in French, so it's a good idea to refresh my memory.
(I like long stories though 😉 ).
(I like long stories though 😉 ).
I'm sure I saw it differently at a different age. I'm glad I had the occasion to read it anew.
On its way to Australia.

Thanks, Icila & Fifna. This is, no doubt, a book I should have read before - & now I have no excuse.
A sad & moving tale about friendship, loneliness & loss. What more could George do for his poor, stupid friend? He gave Lennie the only gift he could in the end - "I ought to of shot that dog myself, George. I shouldn't ought to of let no stranger shoot my dog." I can't help but mourn for the loss of the dream, that little place with a cow & chickens & rabbits, even though George knew it was only ever that - a dream.
