I got this fair-condition softcover at the Book Cellar. It's the selection for an upcoming book club there, and while I have read the book before (via audiobook) I wanted a text copy.

While Bryson has focused the book on America in the summer of 1927, he does cheat a bit by pulling in the back stories of many of the key figures, as well as a lengthy epilogue about where they ended up. But the intersection of such things as Lindbergh's Atlantic flight, Babe Ruth's home run record, the rise of Al Capone, the Sacco and Vanzetti trial, and more, make for a lively and riveting account - and one that often made me want to go read more about a particular person or event.

The book's not all about the famous and infamous; Bryson dips into less well-known characters, some of whom were celebrities at the time but whose memory faded quickly. And his writing style leads from topic to topic, back and forth in time, weaving together the many threads that made up that notable summer.

[There's a TV Tropes page on author Bryson and his work.]
