Interesting take , with the single narrator being Nicholas - as I'm sure we'd have a very different view of events by Etna. A very flawed personality who seems surprised when things don't quite go his way.An enthralling read.

Well written as always by this author, such a pity I couldn't get past my dislike of it's central character; a pompous 'Victorian' American. Maybe I should avoid books set in this period (beg. of 1900's)!
KORKY'S MUM 5/10
On page 151 Etna, the main female character, asks 'What do you wish for, Nicholas?' (Nicholas is the storyteller and main male character). She could have added 'but be careful what you wish for'. Another great piece of writing from one of my favourite authors. Very real, if uncomfortable at times.
