When I was a child, I would never have believed the wonders that life in the twenty-first century would be as wonderful and convenient as we have it today. To my grandparents, computers were unbelievable contraptions that resided in large buildings and involved many nine-track tape drives with blinking lights and multiple people needed to operate them. Now I have a computer with a capability far exceeding those big monsters and I can carry it in my pocket.

I am able to program the lights in my house, the heat and air conditioning system and lock the doors as well. When on a trip, I can use that pocket-sized computer to check to see if I forgot to close the garage door, lock the front door and even turn up the heat on a cold day so that my home is comfortable by the time that I get home. All of this is wonderful, isn't it?

The monster in this wonderful life is referred to as "the hacker". A relatively bright person can find ways to open the door to my house, to turn off the pilot light on my furnace, then turn the gas on to fill the house with gas prior to triggering a switch to ignite my house. That keyless ignition switch on my car can be hacked to shut down the motor as I am speeding along on the interstate, incapacitate my brakes and power steering.

Jeffery Deaver has once again penned a page-turner which scares the bejeezes out of me. This is a great read.
