This isn't spectacular literature, but it's very readable, and I found it quite interesting. It's an ordinary young Englishman coming of age, navigating work, relationships, politics, and education. Well, of course, none of that is ever really simple, and his life is especially complicated by the run-up to WWII. I really liked the author, and enjoyed his excellent description of his experiences. If you're an Anglophile (like me), I think you'll enjoy it too.
