Blurb from the back of the book:
Anne Carson: fifteen, beautiful, wayward. Abducted. The rich Carsons have closed ranks and summoned Frank Calder, subject to strict instructions. This is not the first kidnapping in the Carson family and hard lessons have been learned. But are the two events connected? And is greed the motivation? Revenge? Or could it be something else? To find out, Frank Calder must go beyond his brief. And his every step into the darkness may end a girl's life.
I'd forgotten what a good writer Peter Temple is, and how much I enjoy reading his books. He doesn't waste a word. Shooting Star is tight, fast paced, gritty yet sensitive, and certainly doesn't disappoint.
Reserved for catsalive as a wishlist tag.

Thanks for tagging me, crimson-tide.
I'm not usually one for the gritty, down-and-dirty detective story, but these are so well-written that I can't help but enjoy them. Superb character sketches in a few strokes & not a word wasted - the characters are the story, not long, tedious, descriptive tracts. The words unsaid have quite an impact - our minds can make the connections quite well without being directed at length. Temple is a powerful storyteller.

My first time with a book from bookcrossing. Looking forward to reading this then leaving it somewhere else for another unsuspecting book lover to find.
Wasn’t sure if it was my type of book at the beginning. But once I got going I couldn’t put it down! Started and finished on the same day (well after midnight). Unexpected ending. Will now look for further Peter Temple books to enjoy. I’ve handed it on to a friend to read and re-release.
I didn't finish the book as it did not chime at all with my reading mood at the time.
