Fear in the Cotswolds (Cotswold Mysteries)
3 journalers for this copy...
Picked this up in a local charity shop, to read then hitch a lift with a bookray book!
Very much a cosy mystery.
I found Tope dwelled too much on the weather, tried to create a foreboding atmosphere by Thea being spooked (very superficial) and made Thea, the house-sitter/detective, out to be a bit daft despite supposedly considering studying for her masters in History?!! If she was so clever why would she assume a dead body in the snow was a suicide, be unable to follow lace making instructions and ask the police to ask council for snow plough to come?!!

Thanks, Chocbrownie. I enjoy Rebecca Tope's novels.
I've had a bunch of these Cotswold mysteries on MtTBR for a while, waiting for the right time, but maybe today was the wrong time. I was very disappointed. I know I've enjoyed a couple of these, & I thought I liked Thea Osborne, but I just found her a whingey, whiney idiot. I have no idea what she was scared of: footprints in the snow? really? Was anyone interested in hurting her? Interested in her at all? She's certainly nosey & pushy enough to join the police. It is a pity she didn't get a smack up the back of the head, may have knocked some sense into her.
And what was the point of the dead rabbit? just to add some gore to an otherwise bloodless tale? What person in their right mind - let alone one purporting to be a petminder & doglover - take a lurcher or greyhound into a rabbit pen. Pah! I hope the other books aren't this hackneyed & asinine (my apologies to Donk, a nice, brown donkey within).
