Often when I write book reviews, I refer to "the author" or I call the author by their first and last name, but with this book of essays, I keep thinking of the author as simply Justin because he manages to sound like your very smart friend who is having a conversation with you. Most of the essays in this book were previously published in other books, magazines, or zines (hey, it was the 90s!) but what they have in common are Justin's honest, passionate, and insightful thoughts on things from beauty pageants, the Castro, and visiting his hometown.
